Our mission is to combat the unreason and selflessness that are sweeping our culture from the nihilist left to the religious right, and to sound a new ideal of capitalism and individual rights in American politics.

Good one, Myrhaf. I've been meaning to blog on HR875. In my opinion, this is perhaps THE worst proposal to come out of the Democrats in a very, very long time. Even worse than universal healthcare if you can believe it. You're 100% correct. HR875 is a disaster.

It is *already* illegal to sell food without the permission of the feds. What this law will do is cripple anyone's ability to sell food at all for fear of massive fines, whether technically legal or not.

If this bill passes, we are only 1 step behind the Brits. They actually have a new government program to monitor peoples' food wastage to mitigate "climate change". (As if an economic depression wasn't enough to get people to eat less and watch their food bills!?)

I'm not kidding. Check out the latest British nanny state insanity: http://www.fa-rm.org/blog/2009/04/unfortunately-not-april-fools-joke.html

The US is only one step behind. The USDA has actually said in the Federal Register it would consider limiting food production or dictating massive changes in human diets (presumably toward more grains) to tackle climate change.

Go get your guns, lots of ammo (already practically impossible at WalMart, they are sold out since Obama got elected), your heirloom seeds that are open pollinated, and your chicken coop materials, folks. Because if HR875 goes through, this will be the beginning of the feds basically making it impossible to buy food. You'll have to grow it yourself. At least, until they come after you as a "kulak" just like Stalin did.

Concentration camps will be authorized as long as they are not located on environmentally sensitive grounds.

You mentioned a parliamentary move that cut off debate. Does anyone with knowledge of the process know what ability the Republicans have to block this kind of legislation? Or, are they going along with it for political reasons? I recall that even when the Dems were in the minority, they had the ability to block many things...
