There are some in our circle who would rather concede that this is the worst it can get right now. It isn't -- and yes, we are still somewhat free, not to mention the enormous progress individuals have made in the last one hundred years, e.g. women and african-Americans. I've been studying the history of philosophy lately and it really gives perspective on where we are. I say, there is still hope! Myrhaf — this is such an excellent observation!
