Our mission is to combat the unreason and selflessness that are sweeping our culture from the nihilist left to the religious right, and to sound a new ideal of capitalism and individual rights in American politics.

Benpercent, I hope you are right. I tend to be pessimistic because the Republicans are a joke, and there is really nothing standing between the Democrats and all-out fascism except their will and America's tattering sense of life.

I wouldn't be so quick to call it. You know how Yaron Brook's dream was to have Ayn Rand's ideas circulating *everywhere* within the next decade and it happened within six months due to the financial crisis? The right ideas are getting noticed; we must make them take hold.

Consider this: http://reasonpharm.blogspot.com/2009/08/so-what-cant-wait-exactly.html

"Here's something I didn't know about HR 3200 until today: that the massive expansion in health insurance coverage sought by Democrats would not actually take effect until 2013 -- after the next presidential election."

IF passed, it would not take effect for almost *four years*. An awful lot of activism can be done at that time, so even if it does get passed, we have a chance at making it so the public is not willing to accept its "fate".

I notice that there are very strong rants against insurance companies as well. Common ones I've heard are: "domestic enemy", "profit seeking", "evil corporations" It seems people think that health insurance is an entitlement and are more than happy to coerce them using force of government.

Why, man, he doth bestride the narrow world
Like a Colossus; and we petty men
Walk under his huge legs, and peep about
To find ourselves dishonourable graves.
Men at some time are masters of their fate:
The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars,
But in ourselves, that we are underlings.
---Cassius in Julius Caesar

The Republic is not yet gone. Over the past several months I have become more optimistic. It puts a smile on my face when I hear someone say, "This is not in the Constitution," or, "You are trying to destroy the Republic." Let us add depth, viz. ideas, to this honest sentiment.

TW,

I agree. Its as if we are on a highway and there are no exits. We are seemingly forced by inertia to go to our final destination. With the exception of a small group of pro-liberty advocates (Objectivists and some libertarians and conservatives) no one seems to know or care that our ultimate destination is "The Peoples Republic of America" (possibly the Christian Republic of America?). Objectivists like us are in the role of Cassandra of Troy. Hopefully we'll have better luck than she did.

Yes, I feel that once we have socialized medicine, there will be no going back. Just like in the case of the UK. Both parties are pro-socialized medicine. Once you have that large an entitlement, there will never be the political will to go back.

Similar to how most everyone in Germany agrees their pension system is going bankrupt, and it can't continue much longer, but no politician can get elected who would make the necessary changes.
