The "watered down compromise" is the right move for Obama to make, vis-a-vis the long-term goal of socialized medicine; it would bugger up the works even more, creating an even worse mess to be blamed on private medicine, and more pain to prod Americans to give up and vote for a government plan, just to "relieve the pain". His desire to have it all now... likely inspired by the idea of the government system as his "legacy"... just might be his undoing.
