To the Worst Within Us

April 26th, 2010 by Myrhaf · 12 Comments · Uncategorized

In a recent fundraising video President Obama says,

It will be up to each of you to make sure that the young people, African-Americans, Latinos, and women who powered our victory in 2008 stand together once again.

I think it’s more than just electoral demographics that makes Obama think in terms of pressure groups. The Democrats want people to think of themselves as members of multicultural collectives, not as individuals. The message is: if you’re a minority or a woman, the Democrats will take care of you.

Individual rights are not an issue in welfare state politics. Instead society is a war of pressure groups. If you’re not rich, you’d better vote Democrat to get your fair share of the pie.

At whose expense come the gifts doled out by the state?

Today, the health insurance companies, the Wall Street banks, and the special interests who have ruled Washington for too long are already focused on November’s congressional elections.

They see these elections as a chance to put their allies back in power, and undo all that we have accomplished. So this year, I need your help once more.

The rich, the banks, the health insurance companies — it’s the old class envy card that the Democrats have played since the invention of playing cards.

Underneath it all the left depends on a people willing to live as parasites on others, a citizenry that thinks it’s fine for the state to take from Peter to give to Paul. And that’s the dirty secret that all the left’s ideological concepts, and all of Obama’s gaseous rhetoric about hope and change, are built to evade: at root the welfare state appeals to the  worst within us.

Its as if Obama is openly and directly saying that the Democrats are the party of non-whites and further, that non-liberal whites are evil incarnate. This is open racism. The problem that I see is that it is causing many on the Right to respond with pro-white racism. The welfare state is causing us to become a racially Balkanized state. This could get very ugly.

    Mr. Max,

The welfare state? Yes it is part of the problem, but mass immigration is making the situation worse, don’t you agree?

Mass immigration is no more of a problem without welfare than a piece of rope is without suicidal tendencies.

With the abscence of welfare and the presence of individual rights, immigration is a value.

Well, look at this article —

    http://www.vdare.com/sailer/100425_schoolbook_massacre.htm

Is it the welfare state or immigration/multiculturalism that causes the Wright Brothers to get left out of a textbook?

Immigration also results in the welfare state becoming more firmly entrenched.

    Neil –

There’s no such thing as “immigration/multiculturalism.”

There’s immigration, the physical process of people moving to the United States. And there’s multiculturalism, an irrationalist and anti-Western ideology promulgated by our own homegrown academics and news media. The second of these is responsible for dumbed-down and propaganda-laden textbooks.

    Andrew,

That’s a good point and necessary distinction. But the argument that the Paleos/Trads/Bios/CutlureCons, etc will make is that individuals are ultimately shaped by some culture and that when you let in a large amount of individuals with a different culture, and often a hostile culture, then you are going to get a change in that nation’s original culture. So, the argument goes, by letting in non-whites in large numbers we can expect to see more socialism/collectivism *and* we can expect to see more hostility against whites.

Now this argument has many flaws, not the least of which is determinism, but the Arizona demonstrations are proof that many non-whites hold a terrible hatred for America and for whites. Its tough for me to feel sympathy for them. I wonder if a government should have a role in determining how many immigrants it reasonably expects that it can assimilate.

Maybe its me, and I admit that I could be wrong, but I see an noticeable demographic shift in present day America than the one I grew up in. And I also am seeing *alot* of anti-white sentiment. Has a US president ever openly made anti-white and in fact white demonizing comments like Obama just made? It seems that a core component of the Left is HATRED of white people, unbelievably expressed by many whites themselves. I can’t see how this can lead to other than a race war. Obama is increasingly revealing himself to be an evil man with no redeeming qualities.

  • Andrew Dalton

I think that the Left makes things particularly bad with the way in which they support immigration. They would be on the side of justice if they openly advocated for our immigration laws to be liberalized, and our immigration bureaucracy to be streamlined. But instead, I mostly hear of cowardly attempts to weaken border enforcement or provide after-the-fact amnesty. Without rational reform of the laws, such measures will make things worse by undermining respect for the rule of law, and empowering the gangs and other criminals who benefit from the status quo of massive illegal immigration.

I’ve seen Democrats do similar things regarding illegal drugs and prostitution (such as a proposal in San Francisco to merely de-fund enforcement in the city), and it’s maddening.

It seems that a core component of the Left is HATRED of white people, unbelievably expressed by many whites themselves.

Wrong. It is a hatred of the culture of individualism, which by happenstance is more prevalent among whites. The Left and the anti-immigration conservatives share this point.

I can’t see how this can lead to other than a race war.

That’s the point. The Left knows what the Founders did: the greatest threat to a country like this, is faction.

  • Jim May

Immigration also results in the welfare state becoming more firmly entrenched.

    This reverses cause and effect.

The presence of the welfare state strongly determines who seeks to immigrate. The more welfare state you have, the less prosperity you have. That makes your country less attractive to the productive — and more so to the needy and the moochers.

    Jim,

You are right that anti-individualism is the deeper operating premise here. But I do think that it is manifesting itself as anti-white sentiment. I say this because the Left has been doing this for awhile now. In Africa (South Africa for example) there is an intifada being conducted against white people by black gangs. When these previously European controlled countries become governed by blacks and leftists, these blacks and leftists turn around, and in some cases, systematically unleash horrible violence against whites (as in Zimbabwe). I have no doubt that if Obama could do the same, he would. There is no principled difference between him and Mugabe. I may be wrong, but I think that the anti-white racism of the Left and of many non-whites needs to be brought out into the open in a big way.

It is a hatred of the culture of individualism, which by happenstance is more prevalent among whites.

The problem with a statement like this is that there is an army of evolutionary thinkers and social scientists that will throw a thousand studies to show that it is not happenstance. A statement like that may be very against the findings of science which may very probably show that there are extreme differences in general abilities between the races. I know for a fact that there are very educated people that will see a statement like that and say that if this is what Objectivism teaches than it is nothing more than blind ideology.

  • Jim May

The problem with a statement like this is that there is an army of evolutionary thinkers and social scientists that will throw a thousand studies to show that it is not happenstance.

    What university? East Anglia?

BFD. Even if their factual claims were true, they bear no relevance for any Objectivist ideas. No one has established any such connection, let alone contradiction.

So what if these “very educated” racists dismiss Objectivism as “blind ideology”? Let them. Marxists are very educated too, and equip a similarly deterministic viewpoint (just substitute economic class for genetics), and we’re none the worse for wear for being dismissed by them.

    There is nothing new here.

  • Jim May

So? Anti-individualism is collectivism, and anti-white racism is a species thereof. Dog bites man
